A 26-year-old man suffering from mental illness died allegedly after falling from the 16th floor of an apartment building in the Bagalagunte area of Bengaluru on Wednesday. The police are yet to ascertain whether the death was a suicide or the result of an accidental fall.
The police identified the man as Nikshep K Bangera, who lived with his parents and sister at the apartment complex in Yeshwanthpur. He had returned to the city around six years ago after pursuing studies in Europe, and his family noticed significant changes in his behaviour, according to the police.

Nikshep was under medication for psychological issues: Police

The police said Nikshep had begun exhibiting aggressive tendencies and was later diagnosed with psychological issues. He was undergoing treatment and had been advised to take medication regularly.

On Wednesday morning, Nikshep reportedly told his mother that he was going to the Sri Ranganatha Gowda Math in Hesaraghatta. However, at around 8.30 am, the president of the Princeton Apartment Association, identified as Ravi, contacted Nikshep’s family members and asked them to come to the ground floor of the building. The family members found Nikshep lying dead there.
The building’s security staff immediately alerted the police control room by calling 112. Personnel from the Bagalagunte police station rushed to the spot and conducted preliminary inquiries.

Nikshep’s father later approached the police and filed a complaint stating that his son had been suffering from mental illness for several years and that he had no suspicion of foul play in the death.
The police have registered an unnatural death report and sent the body for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. Further investigation is underway.
